Gates Sanford and Jack Velasquez Elected to EMA Board
3Degrees Trading Head Joins Board as Marex Spectron's Velasquez Begins A New Term
[WASHINGTON, DC – Sept. 9, 2025] – The Environmental Markets Association (EMA) is proud to announce the election of Gates Sanford, Head of Trading at 3Degrees, as its newest Board member. Additionally, Jack Velasquez, Director of Environmental Markets – North America at Marex Spectron and current EMA Board Chairman, has been re-elected to serve another three-year term.
"We are thrilled to welcome Gates to our Board," said Velasquez. "Gates brings extensive expertise in environmental commodity trading that will be invaluable as we continue to advance sustainable market solutions. His deep understanding of renewable energy markets and carbon trading will strengthen our mission to promote transparent, efficient environmental markets."
The Board transition will take place during EMA's formal proceedings on Sept. 29 at the organization's 29th Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. Laura Duklewski of Constellation will conclude her distinguished three-year term as part of this transition.
Following the Sept. 29 transition, the EMA Board will consist of Sean Barwin of Carbon Financial Services, Christian Hofer of Sol Systems, Steve McComb of IncubEx, Ken Nelson of Blue Delta Energy, LLC, Pasquali Roselli of Enel North America, Gates Sanford of 3Degrees, and Jack Velasquez of Marex Spectron (Chairman).

As Director of Environmental Markets at Marex, Jack leads all North American sales, trading, and advisory efforts across Renewable Energy Credits (RECs), Carbon Allowances, and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), bringing over 25 years of experience in financial services—primarily in Sales and Trading—with strategic insight and deep market expertise to Marex's environmental platform. Under Jack's leadership, Marex was honored with Energy Risk's 2025 Environmental Products House of the Year award, recognizing its innovation and impact in the environmental commodities space, and he currently serves as Chairman of the Environmental Markets Association (EMA), where he has been an active member for over a decade, including five years in the chairman role, serving as a passionate advocate for well-designed, tradable markets that address environmental challenges and drive meaningful climate solutions.
